Some Updates

What a week!

You heard my good news on Monday that Big Red had found a home with Untreed Reads, who also publish some of my other stories in e-book format.  What I forgot to mention was that 'Wasting Time' has also been given a potential release date of mid-April.

My moderator position on Writer's Beat has kept me very busy this week and my son had stomach flu all week, which was horrible.  At work I've been re-learning old systems in order to archive hundreds of overdue records.  It's been frustrating to want to write but not be able to conjure up more than a few lines before all thought and imagination dribbles away because I am mentally exhausted.  Several nights this week I sat staring at the screen, trying to suppress enormous yawns and rubbing at watery eyes.

The good news is that my son is much better, he is eating again, has energy and enthusiasm for stuff and is regaining weight.  In fact by Saturday he'd been well enough for long enough that he was over-the-moon not to miss a joint party of two of his pre-school friends.  He had a great time, popping balloons, playing mini football and getting his facepainted.  It was great to see him so active after one of the worst sickness he's had.

Hopefully my washing machine will recover as well, lol.  Anway, finger's crossed that life can return to normal... it would be nice, even for just a couple of days.

Reading wise, well, last night I finished 'The Unbearable Lightness of Being' by Milan Kundera.  It was one of those books that I sailed through, right up to the end and then could not muster the enthusiasm, nor find the time to read the last ten pages.  I did in the end, I promise you... (I am still filled with shame at not being able to make myself finish Martin Millar's 'The Good Fairies of New York').  I finished the book, which ended quite bizarrely, and I have to say it was a relief as it was quite strange in places, although very engaging.  I found it quite oddly laid out, a bit like a maze, as it followed the intermingling lives of four main characters and skipped backwards and forwards through time.

I'm now reading Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen.  Its been recommended by a friend and has had some excellent reviews.  I am also being taken to see it at the cinema when it comes out later this year, so before Hollywood can spoil it for me I would like to enjoy it as the author intended.

I think that's all for now.  It's the weekend, spring finally seems to have arrived and that means the whole family out in the garden, tidying it up and enjoying the sunshine.
